Jessie Mullin Picture Museum #2

The Jessie Mullin collection is made up of photographs from northern Cheyenne. It started as a small collection of family photographs. Today, it contains 15,000 photos and information. Everyday, someone brings in another photo or clipping of northern Cheyennes. Jessie Mullin and James N. Mullin hailed from Minnesota in 1948, where they bought the Busby Trading Post. Then, in 1952, they bought the Lame Deer Trading Post. Jessie took many photos. I added the old photos after I (Janet Mullin), we married James L. Mullin.

It was 1999 when we realized how important this collection would become a museum. 2010 PBS Back Roads of Montana placed the museum, along with my friendship with a northern Cheyenne Lady named Teddy, on their TV series. Teddy has been a great help in documenting the cemeteries across the reservation. Additionally, I am collecting photos of the past tribal presidents. The museum also houses maps and many old census rolls. We have received photos dating back 100 years, even from Wisconsin. This museum is a labour of love. The museum is available all year.
