The gardens and estate were originally created by Samuel Untermyer, a successful lawyer and advocate for progressive causes. After the park was completed, Untermyer’s estate fell into disrepair. However, it is now on the path of regaining its place among the world’s great gardens. Undermyer’s estate had 60 greenhouses and a Walled Persian Garden, which once was considered America’s most spectacular.

If you love gardens, this is the place to visit. While you’re in the area, don’t miss the Temple of Love, a gazebo built into a rock formation. Located on a hilltop, this unique attraction provides stunning views of the Yonkers skyline. The Untermyer Garden Conservancy has worked hard to restore the historic site to its original glory. Visitors can also enjoy the lush landscape at Untermyer Park, which is included on the National Register of Historic Places.

Although the mansion itself is no longer standing, the scenic estate and its surroundings remain. Despite the deterioration of its exterior, the estate still bears the name of the family that once lived there. The former Governor of New York, Samuel J. Tilden, purchased the 99-room mansion in 1880. Then, Untermyer bought the estate in 1899. The park’s original gatehouse still remains.

The Science Barge was originally built by environmental nonprofit NY Sun Works. It was intended to promote green technology through rooftop farming. Philipse Manor Hall #7

The Philipse family owned 52,000 acres between the Hudson River and the Bronx River in what is now Westchester County, New York. They arrived in the new world in 1662, and by the time Frederick Philipse died in 1702, their estate included almost 52,000 acres of Hudson riverfront land, or roughly 1/5 of the area in present-day Westchester County. While many of their descendants still live in the area, many of the original residents died in the early 1700s.

The Philipse Manor Hall State Historic Site is one of the oldest buildings in the United States. The building was built by Dutchman Frederick Philipse I and served as the town’s city hall. After several owners, the building became a museum of local history. The site has a picnic area and is open to the public for a half-hour visit. The Cochran Collection of American portraiture is located inside.

The Phillipse Manor Hall is a beautiful example of early Georgian style architecture. The original stone portion of the building makes up the base of its L-shaped plan, while the brick addition forms the long north arm. The interior boasts beautiful plaster-work, including ceiling details and murals. The addition was probably completed by adding more embellishment to the older portion. And, if you’re looking for a unique, historic house in Yonkers, this is the one to visit!

The Philipse family accumulated a vast tract of land, eventually becoming part of the Dutchess and Putnam counties. Philipse Manor Hall served as the city hall of Yonkers in the 19th century, and was threatened with demolition, but a group of local citizens and organizations saved the structure. In 1908, the American Scenic and Historic Preservation Society helped restore Philipse Manor Hall. The restoration was completed in less than four years, and it is currently the city’s largest museum.
