Kelli Giddish was not happy with the SVU's 'Law & Order' Exit

Variety learned that Kelli Gideish's exit from "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” was not her decision.

Multiple sources have confirmed that the "SVU' shake-up was a call from above. One insider stated that the company strives to keep the show as current, up-to date, and relevant as possible.

Mariska Hargitay, who is both star and executive producer on Dick Wolf's drama, as well at least one other producers, pushed to keep Giddish on this procedural.

Giddish made clear her decision to leave in a statement released Wednesday. She said, "let everybody know that this will indeed be my last season of 'Law & Order: SVU'
