According to NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport & Tom Pelissero,

Howie roseman, Philadelphia Eagles general managers, has been widely celebrated this offseason for the many moves he made

Gardner-Johnson and New Orleans broke down in negotiations for a contract extension. This meant that New Orleans had to shift its focus from keeping him safe to moving

The Saints didn’t receive much: Philadelphia offered New Orleans a 2023 fifth round pick and a 2024 sixth-round draft in exchange. Per Pelissero.

Breaking news: The Eagles have agreed terms to purchase safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson. In addition, they will acquire a seventh-round draft draft pick, 2025, from New Orleans.

Gardner-Johnson was a fourth-round draft pick for Florida in 2019. He's started 31 of 43 games that he has played, with 11 starts in 12 of his games last year.

Gardner-Johnson is listed as a defensive backup with the Saints. His versatility allows him to play both the slot cornerback position and the safety position.

Gardner-Johnson certainly meets these requirements. He is a highly-rated defensive back, and a good starter. Pro Football Focus says Gardner-Johnson is the league's most prolific slot player (24 plays).
