The name Last Chance Gulch comes from the gulch down which gold was discovered in 1864. After the discovery of gold, the area around the gulch became known as “Main Street.” 

This name stuck for about 85 years until Acting Mayor Dr. Amos R. Little, Jr., changed the name to Last Chance Gulch in 1953.
